Chiefs take series lead in lopsided victory

Lane French was the lone Summerland Steam player to solve Braeden Mitchell in a 7-1 loss at Summerland Arena on Monday.

Mitchell turned aside 22 Steam shots en route to giving the Kelowna Chiefs a 2-1 series lead in their Kootenay International Junior Hockey League playoff matchup. Jared Breitkreuz made 19 saves. The Chiefs scored 31 seconds into the game on a goal by Juanre Naude, while Ryan Stack took advantage of a Steam turnover at the blueline to score short handed for a 2-0 lead. In the final eight minutes of the first period, the Chiefs scored two power play goals for a 4-0 lead. Their power play finished four-for-seven. The Steam went 0-for-six.

Steam captain Everett Scherger had this to say heading into Game 4 tonight.

Puck drop is at 7:30 p.m. Tickets $10 for adults, $8 for students and seniors, and Family Packs are $25. For those unable to attend, the game is available on www.playfullscreen.com.
