Steam take 3-1 series lead over Posse

Mitchell Gove, the Summerland Steam’s Rookie of the Year, scored twice, including the winner in a 5-1 decision over the Princeton Posse Saturday.

 

Lane French collected two assists while Eric Scherger made 24 saves as the Steam return home with a commanding 3-1 lead in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League series.

 

The Steam opened the scoring in the Princeton and District Arena when Cody Swan and Ty Banser setup Zack Cooper on the power-play at 1:40 left in the period. The second period saw the teams trade goals as French and Brett Wilson set up Gove for the winner. Justin Fodchuk beat Scherger with 8:03 remaining in the second period.

 

In the final frame, the Steam made the most of their opportunities netting three goals on eight shots. Morey Babakaiff, Gove and Linden Gove scored. Linden Gove scored into an empty net.

 

The Steam look to close out the series at the Summerland Arena Monday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, $5 for students and $25 for families.
