Scherger earns first KIJHL playoff win

Cory Loring led the Summerland Steam with four points, while Eric Scherger stopped 22 of 24 shots en route to a 6-2 win over the Princeton Posse.

 

Linden Gove netted the eventual winner at 9:39 of the third period to give the Steam a 3-2 edge. The victory evens the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League Okanagan Division series at one.

 

There was no scoring in the first period. Loring scored his first of two on the night with 11:15 remaining in the second. Also scoring for the Steam were Zack Cooper, Ty Banser and Bevis Chou. Collecting assists were Tyson Conroy, Ryan Allen with two, Cooper, Loring with two, Cody Swan, Gove and Morey Babakaiff.

 

The Steam were 4-for-4 on the penalty kill, but went 0-for-5 on the power play.

 

The series now shifts to Princeton for Games 3 and 4 at the Princeton and District Arena Friday and Saturday for a 7 p.m. puck drop. The game is available on www.playfullscreen.com.
