The Summerland Steam are excited to announce that Head Coach and GM, Mark MacMillan, is officially back for another year with the team.

After taking over as Head Coach and GM in late October last year MacMillan lead the team to a 22-16-2-2 record and had the team playing their best hockey of the year in a hard fought 6 game second round playoff loss to the KIJHL regular season champion Osoyoos Coyotes.

MacMillan loved his time on the bench last year and enjoyed sharing his experiences as a player with the team. Before becoming a coach, Mark gained valuable experience in his playing career that included being drafted in the 4th round of the 2010 NHL entry draft by the Montreal Canadiens, playing at the University of North Dakota, and playing 6 years professionally across the AHL, ECHL, and Denmark.

“I am excited to be back with Summerland and to continue to build on a great finish to last season. The players all bought in to creating a winning culture, in a team-first setting, and I am excited to continue to build a program where players are excited to come play and develop”

The Steam have 4 players from last season already signed to play at the JR. A level for the coming season, a testament to Coach MacMillan’s focus on development and wanting players to move on.

The Steam are excited for MacMillan to be back!

Summerland will start regular season games Friday, September 23. Tickets will go on sale soon!
